Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has expressed his admiration for the football played by FC Barcelona under the leadership of Hansi Flick. Despite a recent stumble in domestic competition, Barcelona has enjoyed a strong debut season under Flick’s leadership.
The Blaugrana currently lead the La Liga standings and sit 2nd in the revamped Champions League format. Simeone, clearly impressed by Barcelona’s efforts, has not overlooked the strides made by Flick and his team.
In an interview with Telemundo Deportes, Argentine tactician Simeone was asked for his thoughts on Flick’s Barcelona. The Atlético Madrid boss seized the moment to heap praise on the Catalan side, just a week before their upcoming clash.
“I really, really like Barcelona, because of the way they are playing. I don’t know if they will be able to maintain this pace, with a lot of high pressure, with a lot of space at the back to be able to defend, but they have young players, who Flick has signed at an ideal time.” Simeone said.
“They have Lewandowski, who is having an incredible season so far. The football he shows is the kind you like to watch, it’s beautiful. Breaks, pressure, space to defend, one-on-one duel. They do it all very well.” he added.

Since Flick replaced club legend Xavi Hernandez as Barcelona’s manager last summer, the team has adopted a noticeably different style of play. The high-intensity pressing and reliance on a very advanced defensive line have clearly left a strong impression on Atlético Madrid’s boss.
In stark contrast, Atlético Madrid under Simeone is a masterclass in defensive discipline and counter-attacking efficiency. Under his leadership since 2011, Atlético Madrid has become renowned as one of Europe’s most formidable teams, built on tactical discipline, resilience, and a results-driven approach.
