Cristiano Ronaldo has firmly stated that Manchester United’s issues are not a result of new manager Ruben Amorim, and he believes he could resolve them if he were the club’s owner. In a bold move, Ronaldo has positioned himself as the one capable of addressing United’s ongoing struggles, while also expressing his long-term ambition to one day take ownership of the club.

Amorim has suffered five losses in his 10 games as Manchester United manager, including four of the last five in the Premier League, and has admitted that his position is under threat ahead of the upcoming match against Newcastle United. Despite this, Ronaldo, who netted 145 goals during his two stints at the club and has been outspoken about United’s ownership in recent years, insists that his fellow Portuguese is not at fault.

Speaking at the Dubai Global Soccer Awards, Ronaldo said: “[The] Premier League is the most difficult league in the world. All the teams are good, all the teams fight, all the teams run, all the teams are strong. Football is different right now. There are no easy games anymore. They need, I said this one year and a half ago, and I will continue to say it: The problem is not the coaches, it’s like… I always give this example… it’s like an aquarium.”

“If you have the fish inside and he’s sick and you take him out and you fix the problem and you put him again in an aquarium you will be sick again. The problem of Manchester United is the same. The problem is not always the coach. It’s much more than that. If I will be the owner of the club, I will make things clear and adjust things that are bad there.” the Al Nassr forward added.

In his 2022 interview, Ronaldo was particularly vocal in criticizing the Glazers, accusing them of neglecting to invest in the club. He pointed out the outdated facilities at Manchester United, claiming they were significantly below the standards of other top European clubs.

Since then, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken charge of football operations after becoming a co-owner in February. Ratcliffe is said to have introduced “major changes” behind the scenes, including creating a more defined hierarchy above the head coach and implementing substantial cost-cutting initiatives.

United is currently 14th in the table and with games against Newcastle, Liverpool, and Arsenal (FA Cup) coming up, Amorim will have his work cut out to turn things around at Old Trafford.
