Cristiano Ronaldo Might Look to Replicate LeBron James Says His Former Coach

According to Rene Meulensteen, Cristiano Ronaldo still has a few career ambitions left to achieve, one of which includes his son, Cristiano Jr. Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo has accomplished nearly everything in world football, securing major trophies at both club and international levels, breaking numerous records, and solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time legends.

At 39, Ronaldo shows no intention of slowing down, aiming to reach 1,000 career goals before contemplating retirement. Ever ambitious, he is likely setting additional targets, possibly drawing inspiration from NBA legend LeBron James.

James is currently teaming up with his son Bronny at the LA Lakers, and Ronaldo might aspire to follow a similar path in football as Cristiano Jr continues to shine in Al-Nassr’s academy. When asked if Ronaldo would want to play alongside his eldest son, former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen told GOAL, in partnership with Instant Casino: “Absolutely, without a doubt. He would love that. It could even serve as extra motivation for him to keep pushing until that moment becomes a reality.”

“I said it years and years ago, Ronaldo will never leave as a candle that slowly burns down. If he feels that he can still make a massive contribution in the way he keeps going and playing, scoring goals. But there is a cut-off point for everybody, where the game runs away from you. That can sometimes happen whether you want it or not. I’m sure he has got plenty of motivation in him. He’s a fit boy, he looks after himself so well, and I bet he would love to play alongside his son.” Meulsteen, who spent one year with the Portuguese legend at the Red Devils before he moved to Real Madrid, said.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., despite his young age, is already turning heads with his talent. The 14-year-old recently grabbed attention by scoring a stunning goal for Al Nassr’s youth team, displaying skills reminiscent of his iconic father. In September, Ronaldo paid tribute to his son by lifting three fingers during a goal celebration, honoring Ronaldo Jr.’s impressive brace for the Al Nassr U-13 team, who secured their league title with several weeks remaining.

Ronaldo has yet to renew his record-breaking contract with Al-Nassr, which is set to expire in 2025, sparking widespread speculation about his next career move. Meulensteen believes a return to Europe is unlikely for the Portuguese icon, as he still has milestones to pursue in the Saudi Pro League and on the international stage.
