Vinicuis Jr. starred in the show as Brazil claimed their first win of Copa America 2024 with a 4-1 win over Paraguay.
After a disappointing 0-0 draw in the opening match against Costa Rica, Dorival’s men showed their quality, taking the lead in the 35th minute of the game. Vinicius and Paqueta linked up with a one-touch play, with the former keeping his composure to put Brazil 1-0 up.
Savio was next on the scoresheet in the 43rd minute, scoring a tap-in after Espinoza failed to clear the ball. Vinicius scored his second and Brazil’s third in first-half injury time following another mistake by Paraguay’s backline. The Real Madrid star slotted home from close range to put Brazil 3-0 ahead at halftime.
Omar Alderete gave Paraguay some hope early in the second half scoring a wonderful volley in the 48th minute. Brazil were awarded their second penalty of the game after a handball offense by a Paraguayan player. This time Paqueta made no mistake from 18 yards to put the game beyond the reach of Paraguay.
Earlier in the first half, Paqueta had completely missed the target from 18 yards when the score was 0-0.
Paraguay’s misery was complete when Cubas was shown a red card for a rash challenge on Doughlas Luiz.
With this defeat, Paraguay have been eliminated from the Copa America 2024 after losing their first two matches. Brazil on the other hand sit second with 4 points with one game to play.
