Mohamed Salah recently made headlines after openly acknowledging uncertainty about his future at Liverpool. The Egyptian forward disclosed that his contract situation remains unsettled, suggesting he could potentially become a free agent at the season’s end. Salah’s comments have undoubtedly alerted numerous European clubs.
According to GOL, Barcelona remains interested in Salah and is evaluating a potential move for the Egyptian forward in the upcoming summer. Aware of his contract uncertainty, the Catalan club is closely tracking Salah’s situation at Liverpool. Should he not extend his stay at Anfield, Barça may look to capitalize on the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer.
Within Barcelona, opinions are divided over the potential signing of Salah. Some see him as an ideal addition, offering a wealth of experience at the top level and potentially arriving at minimal cost. Others, however, question the move, noting that Salah plays in the same position as rising star Lamine Yamal.
Salah is also expected to demand huge wages with the Egyptian reportedly earning an enormous €25 million per year, a figure well beyond Barcelona’s reach due to their current Financial Fair Play constraints.

While Salah’s brilliance over nearly a decade at Liverpool makes him a dream acquisition for many clubs, his high wages render a move to Barcelona highly improbable. Instead, the seasoned forward is increasingly likely to join a Saudi Arabian club once his Liverpool contract concludes.
Complicating matters, Liverpool are likely to intensify their efforts to renew Salah’s contract, while Saudi Arabian clubs are expected to provide fierce competition, with their lucrative offers aimed at securing one of the Premier League’s top talents. The names of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nico Williams have resurfaced, leaving it uncertain which player Barca will prioritize during the summer transfer window of 2025.
Stalemate in Salah’s contract negotiations
After the game against Southampton, where Salah again stole the headlines with a brace to give his side a 3-2 win, he addressed his contract situation, drawing significant attention. “Despite my hopes of remaining at Liverpool, I have not received any offers to extend my stay with the club.”
Salah’s existing contract, signed in July 2022 and making him Liverpool’s highest earner at over £350,000 per week, is due to expire at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. From January 1st, he will be eligible to enter discussions with clubs outside England.
