The highly anticipated Formula One movie starring Brad Pitt is set to hit theatres worldwide on June 25, 2025, before being released in North America two days later.
The story revolves around a former F1 racer Sonny Hayes who retired in the 1990s after a horrible crash. Years later, his friend Javier Bardem who is a struggling team owner contacts him to join his team. Hayes’ joins APXGP as its second driver and a mentor for Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris.
Pitt told in an interview with Sky Sports, “A guy who raced in the 1990s… who has a horrible crash, craps out and disappears, then he’s racing in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, he’s a team owner, contacts him. They’re a last-place team, they are 21-22 on the grid, and they’ve never scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue.“
Lewis Hamilton’s Involvement in the Brad Pitt F1 movie
Seven-time F1 World champion Lewis Hamilton is the producer of the movie and also has a lead consultant role as part of his own production company known as Dawn Apollo Films. He is also rumored to have a cameo in the movie along with other drivers, team principles and team members which, however, is yet to be confirmed
F1’s view on the Brad Pitt F1 movie
Formula One is understandably thrilled about the movie knowing the benefits of the film. F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, however, did warn that the movie would be ‘invasive’ for those in the sport.
“When we started the collaboration with Netflix, the community said what’s going on? This is not our place to be,” Domenicali said according to Motorsport.com. “And now we understand the power of it. And then we added the very strong presence with social media, making sure that all our drivers and teams are very active in promoting the sport.“
“And that’s another tool with the movie. Actually, we’re going to start the shooting in Silverstone very soon, and you will see it will be the first movie when basically, they will be within the racing event. It will be quite invasive in terms of production, it’s something that we need to control in a way, but it will be another way of showing that F1 never stops.”
