What Is the Plot for Brad Pitt Starrer F1 Movie?

0

Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton‘s F1-inspired movie, rumored to be named Apex, will be released on June 25, 2025.

The movie has utilized grand prix weekends to produce footage and is on course to be one of the most expensive movies ever made. Puck reported that the budget for the movie is well over $300 million making it one of the biggest productions in the world.

In the 2023 season, Silverstone and Monaco allocated a pit garage for the movie crew for the shoot. They were also given replica equipment and hoardings. Later that season, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi were the shooting spots, where on-track camera cars and pit wall shots were taken throughout the weekend.

A lengthy Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strike halted the movie production and pushed it into 2024. This led to a headache for the movie editors due to the change of liveries in the new season.

Rumors suggested that 2023 footage would no longer be used and new footage would be taken at the beginning of this season, however, this was later denied by F1, which said that the footage “is relevant”.

Movie Plot

During an interview with Sky Sports, Brad Pitt revealed that he will play the role of retired racer – Sonny Hayes who retired from racing following a huge crash in the 1990s. Years later he joins APXGP as its second driver and a mentor for Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris.

Given the access that F1 gave to the movie crew at Silverstone, it is thought to be a key part of the story along with Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi, and Hungary.

APXGP performed several race-like maneuvers including racing side by side at the Silverstone, bringing back the 2021 memories of Yas Marina between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

The movie also features a cameo from drivers, team principles and other pit crew members.

Movie cast

Brad Pitt and Damson Idris will play the leading roles in the movie.

“Brad looks like he’s aging backwards,” Hamilton said after British GP in 2023 “He looks great for his age. It was a big topic when we were discussing the first story but he’s super fit, he’s been training.”

“At the end of the day, it’s a movie so there will be a Hollywood element to it that will make it believable. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have Brad Pitt in a Formula 1 movie. It’s incredible.”
