A comprehensive team effort from India secured a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium, clinching the two-match series 2-0.

After opting to bowl first, India dismissed Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings, a process stretched across the first and fourth days due to rain washing out the second and third days. In response, India’s batters quickly posted 285/9 declared in just 34.4 overs at an impressive run rate of 8.22, securing a 51-run lead.

Starting the fifth and final day at a fragile 26/2, Bangladesh could only muster 146 in their second innings, leaving India with a modest target of 95 runs and two sessions to chase it down. Yashaswi Jaiswal (51 off 45) and Virat Kohli (29*) comfortably guided India to victory after early setbacks with both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill falling for single-digit scores.

Which records did India break during the second test against Bangladesh?

India broke several records in the second test including the fastest team to reach 50, 100, and 200 in a test match. Men in Blue reached 50 in just 18 balls, while England, who previously held the record, accomplished it in 26 balls earlier this year against the West Indies.

India also set a new world record for the fastest team 100, reaching the milestone in just 10.2 overs. This achievement surpasses their previous record of 12.2 overs, which they set against West Indies last year.
Men in Blue also set the record for the fastest 200 runs in Test cricket history, reaching the milestone in just 24.2 overs. This impressive feat surpassed the previous record held by Australia, who achieved 200 runs in 29.1 overs against Pakistan in 2017.
The 55-run partnership between Jaiswal and Rohit also set a new world record. This partnership was marked by a remarkable run rate of 14.34 runs per over, establishing a record for the highest scoring rate in a Test partnership of at least 50 runs.

The second test win against Bangladesh marked India’s eighth win in 11 matches during the current World Test Championship cycle. It further solidified their dominance at the top of the table, boosting their points percentage to 74.24%. India is a heavy favorite to further increase their points tally, with a three-match Test series against New Zealand on the horizon. Following that series, Indian fans can look forward to a thrilling five-match Test showdown between India and Australia. The highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy could prove decisive in determining the top spot in the World Test Championship standings. Men in Blue could secure their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, set to be held at Lord’s in June 2025, before their tour to Australia. To achieve this, India needs to sweep New Zealand 3-0 in the upcoming Test series.
