Will the Nassau Stadium In New York Be Demolished After the Group Stages at the T20 World Cup?

On June 12, with India vs USA counted as last match at Nassau stadium in New York Stadium, Super Eight Stages to shift the entire tournament to the West Indies.

The world class stadium spreads approximately around 361,850 square feet (33,616 square meters), built 1200 miles away from Florida. With an ambition to expand cricket globally, ICC took the courageous leap of building the stadium in USA within a short time of five to six months.

Ten drop-in pitches travelled to New York, flown in from all the way from Florida. The main stadium was installed four pitches, while at Cantiague Park, other six pitches were incorporated. The park where team India and others are having practice sessions.

Despite extensive efforts to built the stadium, Nassau County stadium has garnered a lot a criticism. At New York, Nassau County stadium players had to make through the unpredictable pitch. The pitch has showed its unpredictability from the start.

Top scoring players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli found it hard to answer the bowl on this unfavorable field. Virat Kohli for the first time in his whole career was dismissed on a single digit score in this stadium.

Rohit Sharma also had to retire injured in the very first match against Ireland. Even, BCCI filed an unofficial complaint after the incident regarding the safety of the Indian players on the pitch.

However, cricket fans could still witness thrilling encounters like India and Pakistan epic clash and India, South Africa and Australia making it to Super 8. The stadium managed to cluster seven group-stage matches.

What Will Happen To Nassau County Stadium At New York

Lying on the outskirts of New York, Long Island Stadium, hosting the T20 World Cup 2024 matches, will undergo modifications. The stadium will be dismantled. An International Cricket Council (ICC) official confirmed,

“Yes, the stadium will be dismantled by the authorities after the India vs USA game. The process will start from tomorrow, only the pitch and the ground will be left for the locals,”

The interchangeable components are to be removed while the stands will remain intact. Also the so much talked about, pitch will remain posited at the center along with other ground infrastructure. The stands accommodated up to 34,000 spectators. The temporary stands were designed by Populous.

Previously known as the Eisenhower Park, will then be enjoyed by the local cricket clubs and the cricket fans.

With renovations and modifications, we hope to witness the world class cricket again on the same ground.
