When will Jammu & Kashmir’s fast bowling sensation Auqib Nabi make his debut for Delhi Capitals in the IPL? That’s the question that has been lingering in the mind of fans ever since he was bagged by the Delhi-based franchise for 8.4 crore INR in the auction for the current season.

The Capitals have made a perfect start to the season, winning both of their games so far. After having Mitchell Starc ruled out for the initial few games, it was expected that DC might struggle in the pace department, but that hasn’t been the case.

In fact, they have managed to be alright thanks to T. Natarajan, Lungi Ngidi, and, in parts, Mukesh Kumar. This also means they haven’t felt the need to utilize Auqib Nabi so far in the tournament. But could a debut be near?

Recently, Delhi Capitals’ bowling coach, Munaf Patel, shared an update on Nabi possibly playing his first match in IPL 2026.

“He is fond of bowling, has a great work ethic. IPL kee hawa nahi lagi hain ab tak (He has not got the hang of IPL yet). He took 60 wickets in Ranji Trophy, it is a big deal. He is ready to play for us. He could play anytime including as an impact player,” Patel said.

This means the Nabi, who claimed a historic 60 wickets in J&K’s triumphant Ranji Trophy season, could make his debut soon. His pace and accuracy could prove to be a vital weapon for Axar Patel’s team as they bid for a first IPL title. Moreover, his power hitting lower down the order could prove to be another big asset.

The Baramulla-based fast bowler knows he has the discipline and consistency to be a long-term prospect and will have his eyes set beyond this IPL season.

Still, his fans will be eager to see him get his big break this year and see how he measures up against some of the best talent in the world. Delhi Capitals will play their third match of the season when they take on Gujarat Titans tomorrow at 7:30 PM IST.
