Virat Kohli Questions Gautam Gambhir About His On Field Aggression, Receives Witty Reply

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, two of India’s most iconic cricketers, have frequently made news not just for their prowess on the field but also for their fiery clashes over the years. Despite sharing a proud legacy as teammates for India, their relationship has been defined by a series of high-profile disputes.

The duo, however, have seemed to sort out their differences since Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian National Cricket Team.

In an exclusive interview scheduled for release by the BCCI on Wednesday, Gambhir was spotted sharing some lighthearted banter with Kohli ahead of the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
In a teaser shared by the BCCI on social media, Kohli and Gambhir were seen playfully teasing each other about their numerous on-field confrontations with players from opposing teams. Kohli humorously asked Gambhir about the mindset he enters during such altercations, but the response from India’s head coach left him completely speechless.

Virat Kohli: When you are batting and you have a bit of a chat with the opposition, did you ever feel like this might carry on to you going out of the zone and potentially getting out, or it put you in a more motivated state?

Gautam Gambhir: You have had more altercations than I have. I think you can answer that question, better than I can.

Virat Kohli (laughing): Main to ye dhund raha hun ki koi meri baat se agree kar jaye. Ye nahi bol raha ki galat hai. Koi to bole haan, yahi hota hai (I am only looking for someone who agrees with what I have to say. Not saying that it is wrong. At least someone should say, yes this is what happens).

The duo was an integral part of India’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 winning campaign. Gambhir and Kohli will commence their campaign for the World Test Championship Final as coach and player with the upcoming Bangladesh series. The two-match series will mark the start of a 10-game stretch in Test cricket, including a home series against New Zealand and an away tour to Australia.

Gautam Gambhir Hints at India’s Strategic Approach to the Bangladesh Test Series

Ahead of the Bangladesh series, newly appointed Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has outlined his vision for the team, emphasizing adaptability and a results-driven strategy rather than a fixed style of play.

“We want the team that adapts and that learns quickly rather than a team that adopts one style”, Gambhir said, “We want guys to be playing the situation, the conditions and then keep growing. You know all this giving a name to a certain style is like playing only one way.”

The first of the two tests will be played from 19 September at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and 2nd test will start from 27 September at Green Park, Kanpur.
