Reports: Gautam Gambhir Set to Become New Indian Team Coach, Announcement Soon
On May 13, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the open position for the next coach of team India as Rahul Dravid will see his tenure come to an end after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.
Soon after the announcement, rumors about Gautum Gambhir taking the charge as next head coach started making rounds.
The deadline for applying for the post of Indian men’s cricket chief coach ended on Monday, May 27. But Gautam Gambhir’s possible positioning as head coach for the team made strong speculations after his incredible success in IPL 2024.
Furthermore, BCCI secretary Jay Shetty’s recent visit to Gautum Gambhir after KKR’s title triumph gave more air to the murmurs.
According to Cricbuzz report, high profile personalities have claimed that Gambhir’s appointment to the post is inevitable.
“A very high-profile owner of an IPL franchise, who is very close to the BCCI top brass, told Cricbuzz that Gambhir’s appointment is a done deal and the announcement will come soon. A high profile commentator, who is very clued to the happenings in the BCCI said efforts are being made to rope in Gambhir. The fact that an announcement has not yet come suggests that negotiations are underway on multiple fronts — between the two parties and, perhaps, with some others too.”
However, no official announcements are made by BCCI and Gautum Gambhir has also appeared silent.
