Ahead of historic T20i World Cup, Pakistan crashed to 23 runs by England in the second fixture of their T20 international series.

The wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan , scored just 11 runs in a failed run-chase. Given his poor performance , the journalist questioned his spot in the upcoming pivotal T20 World Cup squad.

“There are some players who are selected on recommendation like Azam Khan whose fitness is not up to the mark at all. Should other deserving players get a chance instead of such players?” said the journalist.

Fakhar Zaman gave a befitting response to the journalist, “If you make a team then don’t pick him. The team is picked Gary Kirsten and Babar Azam. What you said is disrespectful toward a player. You’ve to see how he managed to find a spot for himself in the team. He has been selected due to his performances in the CPL.”

He further emphasized, “Please do some research on how a player like Azam Khan fought his way into the playing XI. Even I can say that you came here by recommendation. So, do some research before coming to the press conference.”

Azam Khan’s Recent Performances

The son of former Pakistan cricketer, Moin Khan, Azam Khan was ruled out of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand with a Grade One tear of his right calf muscle.

During batting practice before the first T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, cricketer first experienced discomfort in his right calf.

In the recent defeated match, Khan again couldn’t show any good performance. In a run-chase his contribution was only 11 runs.

Azam has faced allegations of nepotism for being son of former Pakistani cricketer, Moin Khan. In addition to that, showing poor performance in recent matches ahead of T20 World Cup, has made his spot in the squad questionable.
