India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy scored his first Test century under great pressure during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne. It was a memorable moment for Nitish, who had his father Mutyala Reddy watching from the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) stands. Coming in to bat with India struggling at 191/6, the 21-year-old achieved a remarkable hundred. It appeared as though his father was sharing the experience with him, as cameras captured him praying in the stands.
As Nitish reached his century, his father burst into joy and was moved to tears. The father and son have shared a path filled with challenges and sacrifices, with his father even quitting his job to support Nitish’s cricket dream.

“My father left his job for me and there has been a lot of sacrifice behind my story. One day, I saw him crying because of the financial problems we were facing, and I was like, this is not how you can be. Then I got serious. I gave my first jersey to him and saw the happiness in his face,” Reddy had told BCCI.TV
Reddy played important innings in the forties and thirties in the first three Tests, often having to bat with the lower middle order and tailenders. In this match, with the help of Washington Sundar, Reddy reached his first Test half-century and went on to turn it into a century.
