Indian pacer Mohammad Shami made a comeback in competitive cricket since ODI World Cup 2023, playing his first red-ball match in 2024. Shami represented the Bengal team in the Ranji Trophy. He bowled 19 overs with four maidens and took four wickets in his spell.
This is a piece of great news for the Indian team before the important Border Gavaskar Trophy as India needs to win the series by 4-0 to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. The national selection committee will keep a look at how Shami’s body will respond in the second innings BCCI’s Sports Science & Medical Team will examine if the pacer will have any kind of swelling or pain at the end of the match, If everything goes well for the pacer he can join the Indian squad before the first test at Perth, which will start on 22 November. The Ranji Trophy match will end on 16th November.
Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 where India was unbeaten until Australia defeated them in the final of the World Cup, he took 24 wickets with an average of 10.70. He also missed the T20 World Cup 2024 due to his injury. The pacer took the Instagram after a brilliant performance, writing “Finally The wait is over! After 360 days, Iβm back on the field, stronger and hungrier. 4 wickets for Bengal in Ranji and this is just the start. Every delivery and every wicket is dedicated to YOU, my incredible fans. Your love fuels my passion! Letβs make this season unforgettable!

“Obviously, Shami was asked to play this game keeping in mind that the next round of Ranji Trophy will only start on January 23 after the Test season is over.” But the biggest test would be whether he again feels any pain after four days. If the NCA medical team green-lights his fitness, obviously he will join before the second Test,” the BCCI source added.
