India has announced their 15-player squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, with Rohit Sharma set to captain the team. The tournament will take place in Pakistan and Dubai starting February 19.
The selection meeting was held in Mumbai today, lasting more than two hours, before Rohit and chief selector Ajit Agarkar shared the names during a press conference.
Karun Nair, who is in red-hot form has not been included in the Champions Trophy squad, and Shubman Gill will be the vice-captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal has also made the squad. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are in, along with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana. However, Mohammed Siraj has been dropped, and Rana might only play in the three-match series against England. Sanju Samson has also been dropped.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar also mentioned that Bumrah might not be fully fit to bowl in the first two matches of the England series, and Rana will replace him for those matches.

This will be Rohit’s fourth consecutive ICC tournament as India’s captain. His first global event as skipper was the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team made it to the semifinal. The 37-year-old then led the team to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and later won the 2024 T20 World Cup. Now, the experienced captain will aim for his second ICC title.
India has played only three ODIs since the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup – all during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July-August last year, which they lost 2-1.
