Steve Smith scored a brilliant century on Day 2 of the MCG Test against India. Australian captain Pat Cummins had an outstanding performance with both bat and ball, while Scott Boland took crucial wickets in the final moments of the day, giving the hosts full control over the India team before stumps.

Australian captain Pat Cummins got Indian captain Rohit Sharma out for only three runs with a short ball in the second over of the innings. About an hour later, the fast bowler dismissed KL Rahul with a beautiful delivery, leaving India at 51-2 after 15 overs.

Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal and the out-of-form Virat Kohli helped India to steady Indian innings with a strong partnership for the third wicket. The two players fought back against the Australian fast bowlers and experienced spinner Nathan Lyon, adding 102 runs from 26 overs to take India past the 150-run mark.

Scott Boland took advantage of Australia’s momentum, quickly removing a settled Kohli and night watchman Akash Deep. As a result, India went from 153-2 to 164-5 by stumps on Day 2. Unbeaten Rishabh Pant (6*) and Ravindra Jadeja (4*) will continue India’s innings on Day 3, still needing 310 more runs to catch up to the hosts.
