India’s Three Super 8 Opponents at T20 World Cup Nearly Confirmed

Defeating USA in the group stage match, India became the first from the Group A to enter the Super 8. Super Eights will commence from June 19 in the West Indies and India is already aware of tentative opponents.

India has won all the matches of group stage in T20 World Cup 2024. The unbeaten Indians beat all the three teams from Group A and with Canada the final group stage was abandoned due to rain. In the first group stage match, India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets. Then they took on neighboring country, Pakistan and beat them by 6 runs. In the third group stage fixture, co-host USA lost to India by 7 wickets.

As ICC has already put forth the design of next matches in the tournament. India has sealed the top slot in Group A and is positioned in Group 1 of the Super Eights.

Accordingly, scenario for team finishing as first in Group A goes like this : India will be taking on first placed team of Group C and the 2nd placed teams of Group B and Group D.

India can expect these encounters in the near future :-

India vs Afghanistan

Afghanistan goes down as 1st placed team in Group C. With ICC seedings, India will be playing the first match of Super Eight on June 20 against Afghans. The match will be played in Bridgetown, Barbados.

India vs Bangladesh/Netherlands

Rohit Sharma-led team will be embarking on the next match of Super Eights on June 22. The match will take place in Antigua against the D2 team.

As the upcoming scenario of ICC reads, Bangladesh or Netherlands are likely to become the opponents of India for this match. Bangladesh are already through, making them the possible opponents.

India vs Australia

The final Super Eight match for India will take place on June 24. With no ambiguity, the opponent for this match is already locked. Australia, the powerhouse will be locking horns with group of strong Indian players in St. Lucia.

Though Australia has already qualified for the Super 8 but due to ICC seeding, they qualify as B2 despite their final standings in the group.

With Oman and Namibia eliminated from the tournament, South Africa is the only other country who has already qualified for the next stages along with India and Australia.

India will be playing all its Super Eight matches at 8 pm IST, which is 10:30 am local time.
