The highly anticipated showdown between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 is set for February 23, with Colombo and Dubai emerging as the leading contenders to host India’s matches in the tournament, which will be held in a hybrid format.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is slated to take place in February and March 2025. In the meantime, the ICC stated that the timetable for the mega-event will be finalized shortly.
“India will take on Pakistan at a neutral venue on February 23, 2025. ICC is looking at Colombo and Dubai to host their matches,” sources told.
The extended conflict, which has dragged on for over a month has finally ended as the International Cricket Council (ICC) agreed to host all the matches of Pakistan in the upcoming ICC events in a neutral country.
“This will apply to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (Pakistan), ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (India and Sri Lanka),” the ICC said in a statement on Thursday.
In the meantime, the ICC has assigned a new international tournament for the upcoming cycle to Pakistan. “In addition, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been awarded hosting rights of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, where neutral venue arrangements will also apply. Cricket Australia has also been awarded hosting rights for one of the senior ICC women’s events during the period 2029 to 2031,” the ICC said.
However, the stakeholders and broadcasters were eagerly waiting for the final decision for the Champions Trophy 2025 as they were going to invest a lot of money in the upcoming mega event.
“It is good that we got some clarity on the Champions Trophy, and also the future ICC tournaments. That will be helpful for all the stakeholders, cricket boards, and the broadcasters,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said.
