Explained: Reality of Travis Head’s Celebration After Rishabh Pant’s Wicket
Travis Head made a key breakthrough for Australia on Day 5 of the fourth Test by dismissing Rishabh Pant, helping his team secure victory on Monday. However, his celebration sparked confusion online.
Head made a gesture by pointing one finger into a circle formed by his other hand, which some people found inappropriate. Channel 7’s James Brayshaw later explained the meaning behind the celebration.
“Now, great people in the back have said after he took 4-10 within 17 balls in Sri Lanka in 2022 he was quoted as saying, ‘I had to put the digit on ice’,” Brayshaw said. “So that was the celebration. He said ‘I just got him and I’m putting it back on ice’.”
This is not a gentleman game anymore!
Shameless Travis Head!

Australia captain Pat Cummins also defended the Head’s celebration at the press conference.
“I can explain that. His fingers are so hot, that he needs to put it in a cup of ice. Yeah, that’s what it is. That’s normally the running joke. He also took a wicket somewhere where goes straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, puts his fingers in and just walks in front of Lyno (Nathan Lyon). Just like that. It’s very funny,” Cummins revealed.
India suffered a crushing 184-run defeat to Australia in the fourth Test on Monday, with star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again falling short, hinting that their time at the top might be nearing its end.
Chasing a massive target of 340, Rohit (9 runs from 40 balls) and Kohli (5) struggled with both their technique and mindset. India’s batting collapsed in the final session, losing seven wickets for just 34 runs in 20.4 overs, eventually being bowled out for 155 in 79.1 overs.
A defeat at the MCG massively damaged the chances of India qualifying for the final of The World Test Championship (WTC), India needs to win the Sydney test to stay in the race for the second spot.
