Mavs Set Up NBA Finals With Celtics After Thumping Wolves for Western Conference Title
Dallas Mavericks beat Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of Western Conference finals 124-103 to set up NBA finals against Boston Celtics. Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving scored 36 points each for Mavs while Karl-Anthony Towns scored 28 points for Wolves.
Dončić wasn’t messing around scoring his first 10 points in the opening three minutes of the game. Dallas were in complete control of the first quarter conceding just 4 points in last six minutes of the quarter. Mavs had a comfortable cushion at the end of first 12 minutes as the scoreline read 35-19.
Mavs increased their lead to 23 early in the second quarter. When Wolves finally began to score some points, Dallas slowed the game down with many called fouls and timeouts. Dallas eventually increased their lead to 29 at the end of first half as Kyrie Irving and Dončić showered in the threes. The second quarter ended with scores 69-40.
The third quarter was pretty much the same story with both teams trading blows. Dallas increased their lead to 36 points at one point of the third quarter but Minnesota came out firing cutting the lead to 23 points. Dončić was pretty much quiet in the third quarter and the scores were 97-73 going into the final 12 minutes.
The fourth quarter was all about Dallas getting themselves over the line which they managed to do without any fuss. The Wolves closed the lead to 20 only for the Mavs to hit some threes and pull further clear. The rest over the quarter was comfortable for Mavs despite Wolves sending out bench players. The game ended with score line 124-103.
