NBA Draft 2024: Top 10 Picks in Round 1 as French Players Dominate List

The first round of the 2024 NBA Draft was dominated by French players with Zaccharie Risacher going No. 1 to the Atlanta Hawks.

Let us take a look at the top 10 draft pics in Round 1.

1. Atlanta Hawks: Zaccharie Risacher

Zaccharie Risacher was linked to Atlanta Hawks for the past few months. The 19-year-old star is known for his defensive versatility and ability to impact in any situation of the game.

He shot over 40% from three in LNB Elite last season and has every potential to impact the Atlanta Hawks in the coming years.

2. Washington Wizards: Alex Sarr

Sarr’s dream move to the Washington Wizards is done. Sarr is a French 7-footer and played last season for the Perth Wildcats of the NBL in Australia.

He was regarded as the best prospect in this draft with his only drawback being the lack of physicality.

3. Houston Rockets: Reed Sheppard

Sheppard overwhelmed everyone in Kentucky and became one of the most efficient newcomers in the country. He’s a little undersized at 6-foot-2 but is known for his high IQ.

At Wildcats, Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 0.7 blocks last season. He is regarded as the perfect fit for the Rockets who were in desperate need of a shooter.

4. San Antonio Spurs: Stephon Castle

During his time at UConn, Castle was one the best defending guards in college basketball. He’s ultra-versatile and could be a potential high guard at Spurs.

The freshman guard was named in the 2024 NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and the 2024 NCAA East Region All-Regional Team.

5. Detroit Pistons: Ron Holland

In the G League, Holland averaged 19.5 points and 6.7 rebounds this season for the Ignite. The 6-foot-8 SF has incredible defensive abilities and work ethic.

He has some work to do in his off-the-ball movements and move to the Pistons gives him room for growth given that he is just 18 years old.

6. Charlotte Hornets: Tidjane Salaun

Salaun is 18 years old and has a terrific build, a high motor, and shooting ability. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks for Cholet in the 2023-24 LNB Pro A League.

Standing at 6’10 with a 7’2 wingspan, Salaun was one of the youngest prospects in the draft.

7. Portland Trail Blazers: Donovan Clingan

Blazers were in hot pursuit of Donovan Clingan and he fell to them at 7. Clingan is a defensive monster with his size, rebounding, and shot-blocking.

In two seasons at UConn, Clingan, averaged 9.8 points (64.5% FG), 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.0 assists in 17.6 minutes per game. He is known for his slip passes and the ability to put it on the floor.

8. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Spurs): Rob Dillingham

The 6-foot-2, 164-pound guard is offensively dynamic but lacks defensive abilities. He was rated in the bottom 1% for most of the season as a defender and fell to the 0% by the end of it.

He averaged 15.2 points and 3.9 assists while shooting 44.4% from 3-point range. The things he can do with a basketball cannot be taught and is regarded as one of the best prospects for the NBA in the future.

9. Memphis Grizzlies: Zach Edey

The Memphis Grizzlies made a bold move by selecting 7’4″ star Zach Edey as the ninth overall pick in the NBA Draft. He averaged 25.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game last season.

Edey is the best screener in the draft and has the best post-up game out of any center in the draft.

10. Utah Jazz: Cody Williams

Utah Jazz took Cody Williams as the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Williams is one of the most notable high-risk high-reward prospects in this draft.

He averaged 11.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in his only season with the Buffaloes. He even had a pre-draft workout with Jazz and was on their radar for a long time.
