After losing the captaincy at Delhi Capitals (DC) and being let go by the team, Rishabh Pant is now set to lead Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

Pant was bought by LSG for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore at the IPL Auction 2025, making him the most expensive player in the league’s history.

Pant will take over the captaincy from KL Rahul, who has moved to the Delhi franchise after being bought for Rs 14 crore. Under Rahul’s leadership, LSG made it to the playoffs in the first two seasons (2022 and 2023), but they finished seventh in 2024.

Pant will likely be pleased with his new role, as it was the lack of captaincy that led him to leave Delhi Capitals.

At LSG, he will have a more well-rounded team to lead. The franchise kept hold of players like Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan before the auction.

During the auction, they also added some exciting players such as David Miller, Avesh Khan, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, and Akash Deep.

LSG has a lot of firepower with the bat but experience is lacking in the pace bowling department. Pant will have the services of pacers Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep.

Rishabh Pant, who joined Delhi Capitals in 2016 and took over the leadership in 2021 continued to lead the franchise except in the 2023 season due to his car accident.

LSG predicted playing XI for IPL 2025

Nicholas Pooran (Overseas), Aiden Markram (Overseas), Rishabh Pant (C & WK), Mitchell Marsh (Overseas), David Miller (Overseas), Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Moshin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan

Impact player: Ayush Badoni / Arshin Kulkarni.
