Speculation over Lionel Messi’s future at Inter Miami has intensified following their early exit from the MLS playoffs and controversy surrounding their inclusion in the Club World Cup.
Messi’s future at Inter Miami has become a topic of intense debate. The 37-year-old joined the club on a free transfer in 2023, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract. Messi’s arrival marked a transformative moment for both Inter Miami and Major League Soccer, as he led the team to their first-ever trophy by winning the Leagues Cup in 2023.

However, questions and controversy now surround Messi’s future following Inter Miami’s early exit from the MLS playoffs and the reported scandal tied to their participation in the Club World Cup after being awarded a spot in the competition.

Amid the fallout, speculation about Messi potentially leaving Inter Miami has gained traction, with head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino hinting at the uncertainty surrounding the Argentine legend’s future.

“I genuinely don’t know how much time Messi has left in this league. There is a question of time passing, but I would not dare to say that it is so short,” he told the Mirror.

“If you look at the context in which this began, it seems to me that the progress of the club is important. The comparison of the last game of last season, back in October, with today’s third game in the playoffs and this bitterness that we all have for not having progressed makes it clear that the club’s objectives have been modified, and I think there is no reason for the club not to continue trying next year,” he added.

It now seems harmony has been restored between Messi and Miami, with the Argentine star sending a message to club owner David Beckham. Beckham, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic Adidas Predator boots he helped popularize, has co-designed a special edition. Messi revealed via an Instagram story that the Inter Miami owner gifted him a pair. Messi posted a photo of the boots on his Instagram story, captioning it: “I already have them at home!! Thanks @DavidBeckham”.

Inter Miami topped the Eastern Conference last season but was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Atlanta United.
